WEFUNK AD2K
INTERNATIONAL Entertainment Company
WEFUNK International successes over the past two decades have earned
the company the nickname Purveyors of Funky Music. What
was begun as a vehicle for Parliament-Funkadelic Singer, Songwriter,
and Producer Michael Clip Paynes solo projects has transformed
into WEFUNK AD2k Records and Filmworks. A full service production
house that handles all aspects of studio and live music production.
WEFUNKs staff of Producers, Songwriters, Singers and Studio
musicians, have collaborated with a whos who of International
Artists including George Clinton, Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Gap Band, LadySmith Black Mambazo, and Bootsy Collins.
Our artists and producers have always been on the cutting edge.
Past credits include the breakout albums of International Artists
MC Solaar, and Sinclair and the world wide Dance hit Dur
Detre Baby by Jordy. The trend continued with
the success of this years critically acclaimed Techno/funk crossover
hit album by French DJ Alex Gopher, You My Baby and I
a Solid/V2 record release. The second WEFUNK/Solid/V2 venture by
DJ Etiene De Crecy Tempovision is scheduled to be released
this winter.
WEFUNK Internationals accomplishments led to the formation
of WEFUNK AD2k Records and Filmworks in 1999, a boutique type-limited
edition label that caters mainly to funk fans. The first release
from the WEFUNK catalogue produced completely in-house; Cacophonic
FM The Journey, the solo album by company founder Michael
Clip Payne featured guest appearances by George Clinton, the Original
Parliaments, Tony Allen (Fela) and many of the WEFUNK stable of
artists. The album received rave reviews worldwide and sold over
4000 copies at Concerts and through mail order alone. The single
"Puff Slowly" was one of the Top Ten songs on High Times
"Top 25" songs of the year.
The companys second release by P-Funk Alum Andre Foxxe The
Fox Files: A Dossier on Sex and Animals was released in March
2001. This was a compilation of previously released material from
the FOXXMAN featuring members of P-Funk. The track Reputation is
a cult classic capturing all the original members of the Red Hot
Chili Peppers, a testament to the time Peppers spent with Parliament/Funkadelic
in Detroit while George Clinton produced their breakout albums.
DRUGS: The Prescription for Mis-America WEFUNKS Spring 2001 release
featuring Clip Payne, Garry Shider ,Chicken Burke, Adam Widoff and
Joe Eppard was the Underground smash of the year. Receiving praise
from Chuck D, Peter Gabriel, Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Peppers to
name just a few. The album has been a critical succes, "...the
band has taken the psychedlic styling of the 60's and combined it
with the soul sound of the 70's creating thier own unique style....the
most important album out of the P-Funk camp since 1974..."
Rx traveled to France in December of 2001 where they performed at
the legendary TRANSMUSICALS, the famed new music festival. They
were the first band in the 23 year history of the festival that
was asked to play past their time slot. They rocked the house for
an extra hour and 20 minutes.
Under Wefunks direction, in the year and a half that The Prescription
for Mis-America has been together, they have been to Europe twice,
opened for Parliament./Funkadelic, and headlined at such legendary
clubs as The Knitting Factory, Wetlands, The Stone Pony, BB Kings,
Lupos' Heartbreak Hotel, Toads Place, Joyous Lake and the Bearsville
and Webster Theaters. The band has four videos in the works and
will be hitting the road this spring.
In an effort to bring more music to the people, WEFUNK created the
420FM Tripfest. A live show featuring a revolving cast of WEFUNK
recording artists and special guests in an evening of incredible
live music. This is the showcase event for the 420 Funk Mob led
by Mike Clip Payne and featuring LIge Curry and Mike "Kidd
Funkadelic" Hampton.Past performers have included George Clinton,
Billy Bass Nelson, Stanley Jordan, Toshi Reagon, members of P-Funk,
Bad Brains, Lenny Kravitz, and the B-52s to name just a few.
420FM Live on the Off Days is a compilation of all the TRIPFESTs
from the 420 Funk Mobs historic first perfomance at Tramps in 1997
up to the SOLD OUT TRIPFEST's at Wetlands in 2001.
Always on the cutting edge WEFUNK was able to break new ground once
again by broadcasting some of the TRIPFEST rehearsals and concerts
live over the Internet on Web TV. WEFUNK also produced a webcast
version of the event called The Tripfest TV Show featuring
music and interviews hosted by WEFUNK Artists Clipadelic and G.Pace
on the short lived internet TV station Radiowoodstock.com.
WEFUNK also has a staff of artists who create all the graphics and
artwork involved in Wefunk Productions. Originally set up to handle
all aspects of CD cover art production the department has expanded
and moved into the Concert Merchandising arena and Documetnary Production.
Creating Music Video's, producing DVD's, designing T-shirts, bumberstickers,
and rare concert memorabilia for a variety of artists.
Wefunk Records and Filmworks is commited to provide a starving market
of fans with a virtually untapped supply of new material, rare gems,
and unreleased performances from some of their favorite artists
and producers.
Since its inception WEFUNK International has been continually
growing and evolving as the music business has changed. As we enter
the next millennium WEFUNK Records and Filmworks is determined to
be the Purveyors of Funky Music, creating infectious
grooves and a new style of doing business in the next century. While
at the same time avoiding the regular record company politics and
give more creative control, as well as more money to the artist.
